Barcelona launch fresh inquiry for long-time midfield target

The powers that be at La Liga giants Barcelona have this weekend made fresh contact with their counterparts at Real Sociedad.

This comes amid renewed interest on the part of the Blaugrana in Martín Zubimendi.

The name of midfielder Zubimendi of course took its place front and centre in the headlines in Catalunya’s capital in the months leading into the summer.

As much came amid the widespread understanding that the Spanish international had been identified as the no.1 engine room target on the part of then-Barcelona manager Xavi.

Upon the latter being dismissed, and Hansi Flick introduced in his place, however, links with Zubimendi went somewhat quiet.

Those of a Barca persuasion will therefore no doubt be interested to hear of their side, this weekend, making fresh contact regarding a potential deal for the 25-year-old.

As per a report from transfer insider Adrián Sánchez, Deco and the Camp Nou board recently touched base with Real Sociedad, to gather fresh information on the kind of fee likely to be required to land Zubimendi.

A further insight into the situation is expected to arrive over the days ahead.
