Barcelona hope to discuss €80m defender’s contract in January
Many of the problems that FC Barcelona are currently dealing with have been masked by various positives. The most obvious of them has been Hansi Flick’s excellent management, and it has veiled several of the team’s glaring issues. Unfortunately, football can be quite cruel at times, so Barcelona must address them quickly.
One of the most glaring problems that the club is currently facing is their whole injury crisis. Many of the team’s definite starters are currently sidelined due to various ailments and it seems like their return dates will all vary from one another and some much more drastically than others.
The likes of Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Dani Olmo, Andreas Christensen, Fermin Lopez, Marc Bernal, and now even Marc-Andre Ter Stegen are out injured. However, there is one more player among their ranks who would have been an ideal player to star in Hansi Flick’s team.
Ronald Araujo, the 25-year-old Uruguayan defender who was a concrete starter for both Xavi Hernandez and Ronald Koeman, is another key player who is currently sidelined. Since the injury he suffered against Brazil during the Copa America, the player has been recovering.
Now, as highlighted by SPORT, Barcelona have an expectation that Araujo will return at some point between December and January of next year. Moreover, the Catalan club is already aware of the fact that they have some important discussions to have with the €80 million-rated player in January as well.
Due to his contractual situation still being up in the air, the Catalan club want to figure out that issue as soon as possible. Moreover, his return on the pitch will also be a massive boost for Hansi Flick, who has been masking the limits of his squad so far with smart rotations and thanks to his tactical expertise.
With Araujo’s return, Flick will have another guaranteed starter in the team who could truly improve this Barcelona team as a new signing of sorts this season. Fortunately, Barça now have a coach who they can expect to get the best out of his players whenever they become available again.
