After a disappointing season on loan at Brighton & Hove Albion, Ansu Fati is back in Barcelona. The Premier League club understandably opted against making his transfer permanent and the youngster is thus back with his parent club.

Given his poor form and the club’s decision to sign a new left-winger this summer, Fati’s future at the Catalan club has been in doubt for a while now.

The player has been linked with a departure, yet refuses to give up hope of succeeding at the club of his dreams.

Back in training

As revealed in a recent report by MARCA, Fati returned to training at the club facilities earlier today, over a week before schedule.

The squad is set to officially return for pre-season on July 10th, but Fati’s burning desire to make a statement and stake claim for a place has him working extra hours.

The La Masia graduate is aware of what is on the line and thus took only seven days off from training during the ongoing hiatus. After all, it could well be his final chance of making a name for himself at Barcelona once more.

The only others training today were Gavi and Alejandro Balde, both of whom are continuing their recovery from injuries.

A crucial preseason

The arrival of a new manager in Hansi Flick resets several parameters at Barcelona, and Fati will hope his story also sees a fresh start.

With the German manager starting pre-season later this month, the image Fati leaves on the field will account for a large part of his future.

Should he leave a lasting impression both in training and on tour, he could well serve as a valuable option in Flick’s system.

Considering the player’s form and recent history, however, the odds do not appear encouraging.
