Barcelona eye free transfer swoop for Tottenham superstar, Deco in contact – report
It is no secret that Barcelona plan on signing a top left-winger in the summer transfer window later this year.
The Blaugrana have been linked with top names like Rafael Leao, Luis Diaz, Nico Williams, and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, among others, although any move for those players would require major investment.
As such, Barça are also keeping tabs on cost-effective solutions as well as the free-transfer market, with Bayern Munich’s Leroy Sane one such target.
Barcelona eye Son Heung-min
Now, according to reports in England, as relayed by Mundo Deportivo, Tottenham Hotspur captain and superstar Son Heung-min is also on the agenda at Barcelona.
The South Korean forward’s contract with the north London club expires at the end of the season and as per the report, chances of a renewal appear to be slim.
As such, Son could be on the move in the summer as a free agent, with Barça among the clubs keeping tabs on his situation.
In fact, the report further goes as far as claiming that there have been contacts between the forward and Barcelona sporting director Deco.
The potential commercial impact of signing Son, particularly in Asia, where he is a major football icon, is seen as something of great appeal by the Blaugrana.
Contract terms could be a sticking point
The main sticking point for the deal to go through would be the length of Son’s contract. Given his age, Barcelona are expected to offer a deal of no more than two years, consistent with their recent strategy for veteran signings.
Indeed, this approach has been applied to players like Ilkay Gundogan and Inigo Martinez who joined without transfer fees in recent times.
The Tottenham ace, however, could hold out for a longer contract. However, the chance to play for a club of Barcelona’s stature with UEFA Champions League football likely on offer as well, could appeal to the attacker.
