In the last six weeks, Barcelona have decided that signing a new goalkeeper will be on the club’s agenda for next summer’s transfer window. Marc-Andre Ter Stegen will still be counted on upon his return from a serious knee injury, although the idea will be to slowly phase him out over the coming years.

FC Porto and Portuguese national team ‘keeper Diogo Costa is believed to be Barcelona’s leading target at this stage, although the club are also interested in Lille’s Lucas Chevalier, who has been tipped to be France’s number one in the future. The 22-year-old, who kept a clean sheet against Real Madrid earlier this season, is very highly-rated across Europe.

It won’t be easy for Barcelona to sign him in 2025, as Sport say that Lille’s asking price would be in excess of €40m – for a ‘keeper, this is considered to be a very significant amount.

It remains to be seen how Barcelona sporting director Deco approaches the situation ahead of the transfer market opening next summer. He has a big job on his hands to decide the best target, and Chevalier should feature prominently in his thoughts.
