Barcelona expect Frenkie de Jong to avoid signing new contract

In recent months, Barcelona have been working on a number of contract situations, including the ones of Pedri, Gavi and Ronald Araujo. They have also tried to make progress with Frenkie de Jong, albeit this has been without success until now.

De Jong’s contract situation has been a problem for Barcelona for many months. They recently withdrew their latest offer because a response had not been received, and according to Marca, the general consensus from within Can Barca is that the Dutch midfielder has no intention of agreeing a renewal. As such, they expect him to push to leave for free in 2026.

If this is indeed the case, Barcelona will be desperate to cash in on de Jong during next summer’s transfer window. They should be able to attract offers of significant value, especially as it is believed that multiple Premier League clubs are interested. However, whether the player himself is interested in leaving in 2025 remains to be seen.
