According to Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona defender Andreas Christensen is currently attracting interest from Premier League club Newcastle United.

Interestingly, despite Barcelona’s reluctance to sell, the club might consider parting with Christensen if they receive an offer that is simply too good to refuse.

It must be noted that Christensen did not feature as a starter in Barcelona’s recent match against Valencia. Manager Hansi Flick opted for Pau Cubarsi and Inigo Martinez in central defence, while Marc Bernal and Marc Casado were chosen to play in midfield.

Christensen made an appearance in the 64th minute of the game, coming on as a precaution due to the risk of a second yellow card for Cubarsi. However, given the solid performance of the starters, Christensen’s role within the team remains uncertain.

With the autumn months approaching, Barcelona will also see the return of injured players such as Ronald Araujo in defence and Frenkie de Jong and Gavi in midfield, which further complicates Christensen’s position.

The transfer window will close at midnight on Friday, August 30th, so clubs interested in signing Christensen will need to act quickly.

As such, Newcastle United have been proactive in their pursuit, as strengthening their defence is a top priority. The club’s main target is English defender Marc Guehi, but Crystal Palace have repeatedly rejected their offers, with rumours of a fourth offer being turned down.

As a result, Christensen’s name has resurfaced as a viable option for Newcastle, who have been considering him since the end of last season.

Barcelona, aware that they will be playing without Araujo, de Jong, and Gavi for some time, are not eager to let Christensen go unless they receive an exceptionally high offer, likely above €30 million.

Christensen joined Barcelona on a free transfer from Chelsea two summers ago. Therefore, any amount received from a potential transfer would be a significant profit for the club.
