There have been contrasting reports in Spanish media lately, regarding the future of Inigo Martinez.

The former Athletic Club defender is facing an uncertain future at Camp Nou in light of several roadblocks regarding his registration.

Inigo Martinez is only registered to Barcelona until June 30, as economic constraints last summer prevented Barça from registering him until the end of his contract, which is 2025.

Barcelona unsure about Inigo’s continuity

A recent report from Mundo Deportivo has offered a fresh update on the future of Inigo Martinez, suggesting Barcelona are unsure about his continuity.

The Catalans have certain priorities when it comes to registering players by the end of the month and Inigo Martinez is not one of them.

Due to the economic crunch, Barça will only be able to register a few players, which puts Inigo’s future is further risk.

Inigo Martinez, for his part, is committed to playing for Barcelona and believes he can play a key role in Hansi Flick’s new defensive setup.

The veteran centre-back is hoping to report to Barcelona on July 10, when the Catalans officially kickstart their pre-season campaign.

Barcelona, beware!

Although the report indicates Barcelona might end up cashing in on Inigo Martinez this summer, getting rid of his services won’t be easy.

If the club decide to sell him, they must pay the entirety of his second-year salary. Not to mention, Barça must be mindful of their defensive options going into the new season.

The club are looking to get rid of Eric Garcia and Clement Lenglet, while Mika Faye, too, could leave Camp Nou. If all of them depart, Inigo will remain the only left-footed centre-back.

Barcelona, therefore, will have a decision to make and the pre-season, to that end, could play a key role in determining the future of Inigo Martinez.
