Barcelona defender confirms he is ‘100%’ staying at the club
Barcelona’s golden trio of Eric Garcia, Pau Cubarsi and Fermin Lopez were crowned the winners of the Men’s Football event at the Olympics last night after a thrilling finale against France.
All three players were regular starters for the Spanish Olympic team throughout the event with Fermin Lopez arguably even being the best player in the tournament.
Now having completed their international duty, the three players will take a deserved break before they link up with Hansi Flick for the new season in Catalonia.
Speaking to the media after winning the gold medal at Paris 2024, Barcelona defender Eric Garcia made a massive revelation on his future and closed the door to a departure this summer.
“I’ve spoken with Flick. I’m 100% staying at Barça this season,” he said as quoted by SPORT.
Commenting on how the Spanish National Team stepped up despite the late setbacks they faced on the night and the mental resilience required to stay calm during adversity, the centre-back said,
“We know that when the moment of truth comes, we are always there. And today we have shown it.”
Finally, Garcia revealed when he would return to training with Barcelona and how he was looking forward to working with Hansi Flick.
“On Sunday I will train with Barça. I feel like training with Flick. I have good feelings with the messages we have exchanged.”
Garcia was a key pillar in Michel’s Girona last season and helped the team qualify for the UEFA Champions League.
He will, however, forget the limelight he enjoyed at his former club and fight for a starting spot at Barcelona where the competition in central defence is brutal. Ronald Araujo’s injury, however, opens a door of opportunity.
