Barcelona dealt a blow as extent of Ronald Araújo’s injury is revealed

New Barcelona manager Hansi Flick will have to start preseason with some major setbacks. In recent days, Pedri and Ronald Araújo have both picked up injuries, while representing their countries on international duty. An update on the fitness and wellbeing of Araújo has now been provided.

The Uruguayan left the Copa América match against Brazil visibly emotional and as reported by Relevo, he will not be fully fit for the start of the new season. The centre back has suffered from various muscle injuries in recent years.

Last season, Araújo’s minutes were managed after former manager Xavi Hernández revealed he was suffering from discomfort in his knee. Recent reports have suggested that the 25-year-old is now dealing with a similar issue, and while waiting for more tests to be carried out, the first scans revealed that the puncture he felt in his right thigh, will leave him sidelined for several weeks.

The initial prognosis suggests that Flick will not be able to select the defender for at least the next month. Araújo will certainly miss the Copa América final (if Uruguay advance) and will not be on the pre-season tour of the USA.
