Every transfer operation that FC Barcelona has conducted in recent years has proven to be complicated in its own way. Certain deals are hard to get over the line while others are frustratingly complex to sort out in the first place. However, there are some cases where Barcelona did some smart business to help themselves.

One such deal could be the one involving Celta Vigo defender Oscar Mingueza. Formerly a product of La Masia and a first team player as well for Ronald Koeman in the 2020/2021 season, Mingueza also continued to get some chances under the leadership of Xavi Hernandez as well.

Unfortunately for him, however, it seems that the Spanish coach did not count on him following 2022 and the player was shortly after purchased by Celta Vigo. While he left on a free transfer to Celta, there was a special clause added that continues to benefit Barcelona even today.

As highlighted by MARCA, Barcelona still retains the right to repurchase the player for €10 million and also holds the rights to 50% of any future sale of the player. Moreover, with Celta Vigo having agreed on his €20 million release clause, that just makes things even less complicated for Barcelona.

That is because the club would only need to pay half of the player’s release clause to repurchase him as they technically still own 50% of the player. Moreover, his profile as a player who can play both as a right-back and even as a centre-back could be useful for the Catalan giants.

While he was not fully trusted before, he has since proven himself to be a much more valuable player as he has continued to develop. So far in La Liga, he has scored twice in just four appearances and has also provided three assists across those same games for Celta Vigo in the Spanish First Division and continues to be a player in great form.

So far, however, Barcelona has not made any moves to get the player back and their focus throughout the summer was on Joao Cancelo. Unfortunately, that window seems to have closed with the Portuguese player having signed for Saudi Arabian side Al-Hilal. The January transfer window, however, may bring in some new twists and turns for Barcelona to explore.
