Barcelona could play UCL home games at Atlético or Valencia’s stadiums
A head-turning story, centering on the plans of the brass at La Liga giants Barcelona for the 2nd half of the campaign, has on Thursday come to the fore online.
The info comes courtesy of Marca, and points towards Barcelona potentially preparing to request the use of the stadium of a direct La Liga rival for their European fixtures in the new year.
The Blaugrana board find themselves in something of a conundrum at present.
This comes as it continues to become increasingly apparent that the Spotify Camp Nou may not be available for use until next season.
Not only that, but Barca’s current home – the Lluís Companys Olympic Stadium – ‘will not be able to be used in the final months of the Champions League as the City Council has made commitments to host various activities at the ground’.
This leaves Joan Laporta and co. in a tricky situation.
So much so that, according to Marca, drastic options are being taken into consideration.
The Catalans, it is claimed, are mulling over the possibility of making contact with La Liga rivals Atlético Madrid, Valencia and even Espanyol, to discuss the possibility of playing their Champions League home fixtures at either the Metropolitano, Mestlla, or Stage Front Stadium in the new year.
It now remains to be seen whether such contacts do indeed take place…
