Over the past few months, FC Barcelona have been busy tying down several young players from the academy to new contracts.

The likes of Marc Casado, Hector Fort, and Pau Cubarsi have been the most notable names to renew their contracts while Marc Bernal is also set to sign a new deal before joining the senior team for pre-season this summer.

Barcelona in contact to renew Unai Hernandez

Now, Mundo Deportivo reports that Barcelona are working to renew another talented youngster from the academy in Unai Hernandez.

Indeed, as per the report, the Blaugrana are in contact with the 19-year-old versatile midfielder to discuss a contract extension.

Hernandez’s current deal with Barça runs until the summer of 2025 and following his contributions with the reserve team this past season, the club are convinced about his potential and wish to prolong their partnership.

After all, the teenage Spaniard emerged as one of the most pivotal players for Rafa Marquez’s side, scoring ten goals and setting up seven more in 38 games, including a stunning hat-trick against Ibiza in the promotion playoff semi-finals.

Call-up under Hansi Flick?

Given how well he performed this past season, there is a strong possibility that Unai Hernandez could be called up for the pre-season by first-team manager Hansi Flick.

The 19-year-old trained frequently with the seniors during the reign of Xavi Hernandez and even made the matchday squad on eight occasions, although an official debut never came along.

But that could change under Flick if the teenage sensation manages to make a big impression on the German tactician during the pre-season starting from July 10.
