Barcelona considering shifting Real Madrid clash outside Spain amid Camp Nou delays
Despite Barcelona’s ongoing struggles, the Catalans have performed exceedingly well when facing their arch-rivals Real Madrid this season.
In the two meetings between these two teams, Barcelona have emerged as clear victors.
During the first half of the season, Barça secured a 4-0 win over Los Blancos while the most recent matchup saw the Blaugrana secure a 5-2 win over Real Madrid to win the Spanish Super Cup.
Real Madrid, therefore, will seek retribution when these two teams lock horns again in La Liga in May.
Barcelona’s stadium problem
While there is a long way to go before Barcelona take on Real Madrid, the Catalans are facing a major dilemma as far as their stadium is concerned.
Recent reports indicate Barça may not return to Camp Nou until May and even in May, it is unclear whether or not the stadium will be ready to host El Clasico.
At the same time, Barcelona’s current home, Montjuic, might become unavailable as the lease has only been extended until April. Not to mention, there is a Rollingstone concern scheduled for the same weekend as the Clasico.
Keeping that in mind, Cadena SER reports that Barcelona are considering shifting El Clasico to a different location in order to meet the large demand.
Barcelona’s plan is to secure a large capacity stadium in another country in Europe so that it can meet the requirements of Clasico.
It must also be noted that Barça would require the approval of both La Liga and RFEF in order to shift the Clasico to a new location.
That said, all of these are merely contingency plans for Barça, who are still pushing for the Spotify Camp Nou to become match-ready by May 11.
