Barcelona confirm loan duo will not signed permanently

Barcelona have confirmed that Joao Felix and Joao Cancelo will not be signed permanently following their loan spells at the Camp Nou.

Cancelo joined the Spanish side from Manchester City on a season-long loan deal last summer and made 42 appearances in all competitions in 2023-24, scoring four goals.

Felix arrived from divisional rivals Atletico Madrid and scored 10 goals in all competitions, though Barcelona will not look to agree a deal to sign the Portugal international on a permanent basis.

The 24-year-old had fallen out of favour at Atletico Madrid under Diego Simeone and spent the second half of 2022-23 on loan at Chelsea in the Premier League. Felix is Atleti’s record signing after arriving from Benfica for £113m in 2019.

Barcelona also announced that former Chelsea defender Marcos Alonso will depart when his contract expires on June 30.

“Marcos Alonso, João Félix and João Cancelo are not to continue with FC Barcelona,” the statement read on the club’s official website.

“The Spanish defender’s contract ends on June 30, as do the loan contracts for the two Portuguese players, who will return to their respective clubs. FC Barcelona would like to place on record their appreciation for their commitment and dedication, and wishes them all the best and every success in the future.”
