Earlier today, we reported that Barcelona have reached an agreement over a new five-year contract for midfield prodigy Fermin Lopez.

The 21-year-old La Masia ace has enjoyed a great rise in stature at the club over the past year and the club are set to reward him with a new and improved contract.

At the same time, Barça have also been working on some other renewals, one of which has been seemingly closed as well.

Gerard Martin’s contract renewal is sealed

Indeed, according to journalist Miguel Rico (h/t Carpetas FCB), Barcelona have closed the renewal of Gerard Martin.

However, much like the case with Fermin’s new deal, the club will not officially announce it at this point and will only do so once they are back on the 1:1 rule.

Martin, 22, joined Barça last year, becoming a part of the subsidiary side under Rafa Marquez. The left-back enjoyed a solid debut season with Barcelona Atletic, prompting new first-team coach Hansi Flick to hand him an opportunity in pre-season.

Martin has not looked back since, making the most of whatever chances he has received, convincing Flick and Barcelona that he is the right candidate to be the backup to Alejandro Balde at left-back.

Given that his contract expires at the end of the season, the Blaugrana had been working on a new deal for the young full-back.

And, it appears that the agreement over a new deal for the Spaniard has been sealed, and will be announced once Barcelona return to the 1:1 rule.

Martin, thus far, has featured in five of Barça’s six games across all competitions, starting once in La Liga. With the cramped fixture schedule, the 22-year-old could see more minutes in the games to come.
