Barcelona chief provides update on search for new goalkeeper
Barcelona president Joan Laporta has on Saturday provided an update on the club’s rumoured pursuit of a new goalkeeper.
The subject of reinforcements between the posts has of course dominated the headlines in Catalunya’s capital across the week to date.
This comes after Barca no.1 Marc-André ter Stegen was condemned to a long-term spell on the sidelines, with a serious knee injury.
Widespread reports, in turn, have since pointed towards the transfer team at the Camp Nou eyeing up fresh blood, to provide competition to Iñaki Peña for the remainder of the campaign.
The retired Wojciech Szczęsny is one such shot-stopper, with the former Juventus man understood to be on the verge of penning terms with the Blaugrana.

Szczesny will come out of retirement to sign for Barça and replace ter Stegen on one year contract.

Speaking to the media on Saturday, it therefore came as little surprise when the subject of the club’s goalkeeper search was put to the aforementioned Joan Laporta.
And, though he did not go as far as to name names, the Barcelona chief did confirm:
“We’re working hard to sign a goalkeeper so the position is not affected.”
