Barcelona baulk at Premier League centre-forward’s €180 million price tag
One of Barcelona’s main goals before the 2025/26 season kicks off is to strengthen their centre-forward position.
Regardless of Robert Lewandowski’s future, the Catalan club is determined to focus significant financial efforts on reinforcing their forward line.
Among the candidates on Barcelona’s radar are high-profile names such as Erling Haaland, Viktor Gyokeres, and Rafael Leao.
Barcelona also like Alexander Isak
Now, according to SPORT, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak is also a player who is on the radars of FC Barcelona to bolster the No. 9 position.
The 24-year-old Swedish international made his move to the Premier League club in the summer of 2022 for a transfer fee of €70 million, following successful spells at Borussia Dortmund and Real Sociedad.
Barcelona have closely monitored Isak’s progress, impressed by his age, potential, and consistent performances.
After an initial adjustment period in England, Isak finished with 25 goals in 40 appearances. This season, he is on track to achieve similar numbers, having already netted 11 goals in the Premier League.
Asking price too steep
However, Newcastle’s asking price is a significant obstacle to Barcelona’s interest in acquiring the player, especially given their financial constraints.
As per the report, the Magpies value their ace goalscorer at around £150 million, which at today’s rate translates to €180 million – a valuation which is deemed unfeasible by the Blaugrana.
Isak signed a six-year contract with Newcastle in the summer of 2022, meaning he is tied to the club until June 30, 2028.
The English club has no intention of selling him at a reduced price, although Premier League clubs such as Arsenal and Liverpool are also keeping an eye on the situation.
As such, Barcelona would have to break the bank if they do intend to go after Isak’s signing come summer of 2025.
