In the summer, Barcelona had to take advantage of Article 77 of the La Liga regulations, which allows provision for clubs to register new players if there are any long-term injuries in the squad.

The Blaugrana, having used the tactic to register Vitor Roque in January in the absence of Gavi, repeated the trick to enrol Inigo Martinez and Dani Olmo by taking advantage of the injuries to Ronald Araujo and Andreas Christensen.

One more time

Now, with Marc-Andre ter Stegen ruled out for the remainder of the season, Barcelona are in a position to once again resort to Article 77 and register a new player – such as Wojciech Szczesny, who is expected to arrive imminently, or even Dani Olmo, whose current registration lasts only until January.

In fact, RAC1 now reports that Barcelona have already activated the process to take advantage of Ter Stegen’s injury and register players under the provision of Article 77.

It allows Barça to use a salary space equivalent to 80% of Ter Stegen’s wages and register new players.

As mentioned earlier, it would enable the Blaugrana to get Szczesny’s registration across the line without any problems, after all the 34-year-old Pole is accepting a low salary to join the club. It would also leave room for Olmo’s registration after December 31.

As reported earlier today, Barça’s announcement of Szczesny’s signing has been delayed due to some technical issues with La Liga.

While not specified, it could very well be related to registration problems, but with the process already underway, it will not be long before the former Arsenal and Juventus goalkeeper’s signing is confirmed.
