Pablo Torre’s talent is undeniable, yet his future at Barcelona remains uncertain as the young attacking midfielder finds himself sidelined more often than not.

Despite his promise, Torre has struggled to secure a regular place in the squad under manager Hansi Flick, raising doubts about whether he will continue at the club beyond this season.

This season marks Torre’s third year at Barça, but it has been a turbulent ride. Initially, it appeared that his technical abilities would make him a valuable asset in the midfield, a position that, although competitive, seemed to suit his style of play.

However, as the season has progressed, and with the return of key players like Dani Olmo and Gavi, Torre has faced increasing neglect.

His lack of involvement has been particularly noticeable in recent weeks, with no playing time in the last five matches, including four in La Liga (against Mallorca, Betis, Leganes, and Atletico Madrid) and one in the Champions League against Dortmund.

Even in matches where Barcelona required a spark, such as the game against Real Betis or their home clash with Leganes, Torre was not considered as a possible substitute.

It is hard to understand why, especially considering that Torre has the ability to make an impact in such situations.

His last appearance was in the defeat to Las Palmas at Montjuic, where he wasn’t at his best, but certainly wasn’t the worst player on the pitch either.

With just 267 minutes of playing time this season, Torre ranks 20th in the Barcelona squad, ahead of only a few players, including long-term injury absentees like Marc Bernal.

This limited involvement stands in stark contrast to his potential, especially when considering his strong performances with the Spanish U-21 team.

Looking ahead, the Copa del Rey match against Barbastro on January 4 offers Torre a chance to regain some playing time. If he does not feature in that match, it will raise serious concerns about his future at the club.

What is clear is that his role at Barça has diminished significantly, and many clubs are already showing interest in loaning him.
