Yahoo Sports Barbie becomes biggest movie of the year
Barbie has officially become the highest-grossing movie of the year.
Greta Gerwig's film has hit $1.36 billion globally, taking over previous record-holder The Super Mario Bros Movie, making $600 million in North America and $760 million internationally.
The film recently broke another huge box office record, with the fantasy-comedy becoming the highest-grossing film to be released by Warner Bros., overtaking Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows – Part 2 ($1.342 billion).

In addition to box office success, Gerwig's film garnered critical acclaim for its screenplay and production values, with Margot Robbie and Ryan Gosling earning widespread praise for their performances.
With a stacked cast and numerous cameos, several stars have spoken about their admiration for the project, with Michael Cera revealing he couldn't possibly turn down the opportunity to play Ken's friend Allan.
Speaking prior to the SAG-AFTRA actors' strike, Cera recalled: "My manager got a call checking on my availability, [so] he called me and said, 'I got a call about this movie – it's the Barbie movie, Greta Gerwig's directing it and it's filming in London for four months or something.
"'I told them you probably wouldn't want to do it because you probably don't want to go to London'.

"I was like, 'What! What do you mean? Call them back!' He didn't like blow it or anything, but he's like, 'I managed their expectations that you might not want to do it.' I was like, 'How can I not do it? I need to do it!'" he added, before recalling a call with the director.
"[Greta] was like, 'Let's get on a Zoom right now. Here's a Zoom link, I'll be on there for the next hour'," he explained.
"So she was just hanging out on the Zoom, she's just like, 'Just click that link whenever you're ready.' And then we talked about it, and it just all happened really fast from there."
Barbie is in cinemas now.
