Mario Balotelli was not involved in Genoa’s 0-0 draw against Lecce today, and the Italian striker insists he’s fully fit and has ‘no problems.’

Balotelli sat on the bench for the whole game at the Stadio Via del Mare today and shared a social media message a few hours after the final whistle.

“I want to clarify that I am fully fit and that, thanks to God, I have no problems,” Balotelli wrote in an Instagram story.

“I’ll anticipate this just in case silly things are said in the future, as has already happened in similar situations in the past. A kiss to everyone and Forza Genoa.”

Genoa coach Patrick Vieira didn’t explain why he didn’t introduce Balotelli today but insisted that the Italian striker is being treated like any other player in the team.

Balotelli completed a free transfer to Genoa in October but has only made six appearances, collecting 56 minutes of football.

Alberto Gilardino was in charge of Genoa when Balotelli joined the club.

Gilardino had pushed to sign the experienced striker, but Genoa sacked the former Italy international a few days after Balotelli’s move and hired Vieira as a replacement.

Balotelli’s contract at Marassi runs out at the end of the season.
