Cleveland Browns quarterback Baker Mayfield is ready to return to his "true self" following shoulder surgery. Mayfield posted an update Wednesday after undergoing surgery to repair his labrum in his non-throwing shoulder.

Mayfield addressed his supporters in a video clip where he admits, "This past year hasn't been very easy."

Mayfield's full statement read:

"Hey everybody, just wanted to check in. Surgery went great. It was a complete success. I had a great medical team that took care of me. And checked that box off to get this fixed and now it's on the road to recovery. This is one of those steps to get back to my true self.

"This past year hasn't been very easy. A lot of stuff has gone done and it wasn't easy on me or my family. I appreciate everyone who reached out, that wished me well and good luck on the surgery, all the prayers and everything, it definitely did not go unnoticed so thank you. Thanks everybody that has helped out so far.

"Now it's on the road to recovery. It's not going to be an easy one, but it's going to be one that I'm going to remember. And it's going to be a special one. I'll keep you guys updated. Thank you very much. This is not the end of my story. It's just going to be one of those little things that I'll look back and remember that it's one of those challenges and adversity that I'm going to try and take advantage of and it will make me a better person. Thank you to everybody that has reached out, once again. Let's go get it."

Mayfield appeared in 14 games with the Browns in 2021. His 3,010 yards and 17 touchdowns were career lows. Mayfield has one more season on his contract before he hits the free-agent market.

Browns expect Baker Mayfield to be ready by training camp

The Browns released a statement Wednesday that confirmed Mayfield's surgery and gave an outline for his return.

The team expects Mayfield to be fully recovered in 4-6 months. Mayfield should be cleared to throw in April, which would allow him to participate in the team's offseason program on a limited basis. The Browns expect Mayfield to be fully recovered by the start of training camp.
