Backyard Hockey Could be Making a Return
Playground Productions, the creators of Backyard Sports, recently released a brand new trailer teasing the return of their iconic animated Backyard Sports video game series.
Backyard Hockey was an arcade style game marketed towards younger players as an introduction to sports video games. Players could choose from Play Now, Pickup Game, and Season Play options. Each player had their own catchphrase and lots of customization was available.
Although the publisher has not made any specific references to Backyard Hockey Pete Wheeler, a recurring Backyard Sports character, is holding a hockey stick in the recently released art.
Backyard Hockey was originally released in 2002 for PC and for Game Boy Advance in 2003. Backyard Hockey 2005 came out in September 2004 for PC, before being released on Nintendo DS in 2007.

The 10 NHL players who had characters as children in the original Backyard Hockey were Steve Yzerman, Mike Modano, Brian Leetch, Jaromir Jagr, Jarome Iginla, Joe Thornton, Paul Kariya, Joe Sakic, Curtis Joseph, and Martin Brodeur.
Mats Sundin, Marian Gaborik, Ilya Kovalchuk, Rick Nash, Nicklas Lidstrom and Roman Checkmanek were new characters in Backyard Hockey 2005.
Andrew Raycroft, Saku Koivu, Sidney Crosby, Phil Kessel, Alex Ovechkin, Jason Spezza, and Martin Havlat were new adds to Backyard Hockey 2007.
