Avalanche Place Kaapo Kahkonen On Waivers
Kaapo Kahkonens' tenure with the Colorado Avalanche could end up being a really short one.
The Avalanche announced earlier today that the team has placed the 28-year old Kahkonen on waivers.

Kahkonen started one game in goal for the Avalanche on October 30th against the Tampa Bay Lightning that resulted in a 5-2 loss. In that game Kahkonen allowed 4 goals on 20 shots, ending the night and potentially his Avalanche career, with a record of 0-1-0 with a 3.34 goals against average and a .898 save percentage.
The Avalanche claimed Kahkonen off waivers from the Winnipeg Jets back on October 11th as the team searched externally for other options in goal with starter Alexandar Georgiev struggling mightily so far this season.

To date, Georgiev owns a record of 2-5 with a 4.04 GAA and .851 SV%. The Russian netminder is in the final year of his contract which carries a $3.4M AAV.
The decision to place Kahkonen on waivers was likely mostly driven by Valeri Nichushkin ready to return from his 6-month suspension on Friday in the Avs game against the Washington Capitals.
Once claimed or sent to Colorado of the AHL, the Avalanche will have a roster of 22 players, allowing Nichushkin to be activated from his suspension and added to the active roster.
