Defender Alanna Kennedy has signed for National Women's Soccer League side Angel City, having left Manchester City earlier on Tuesday.

The Australia international, 30, joined City from Tottenham Hotspur in 2021 and made 64 appearances for the club.

Kennedy featured 15 times for City this season but she was absent from squad that lost 4-2 to rivals Manchester United on Sunday in the Women's Super League.

Manchester City had initially said Kennedy was joining Los Angeles-based Angel City before deleting the post on X, with official confirmation coming several hours later.

Kennedy has signed a one-year contract at Angel City for the 2025 NWSL season, with an option to extend for the 2026 campaign if both player and club agree.

Angel City said they have signed Kennedy for an undisclosed transfer fee.

"I am really excited to join Angel City and return to the NWSL, " said Kennedy, who previously played for Western New York Flash and Orlando Pride in the USA.

"I was inspired by the club's mission and purpose and I am looking forward to arriving in LA and meeting all my team-mates. Equally, I am excited to get to work and contribute to the team's success on the field."

Earlier, Kennedy had posted a farewell messages to Manchester City on her Instagram following three and a half years with the club.

"I am leaving with a lot of amazing memories," Kennedy wrote.

"I've had some real career highlights playing for this team and made some friends for life. I want to take this opportunity to thank all of those who supported me during my time here.

"It has been a privilege to play alongside you all and I wish you all of the continued success for the rest of the season and beyond."

During her time with Manchester City, Kennedy won the 2022 Women's League Cup.

She has 131 caps for Australia, helping them to fourth place at the 2023 World Cup, and has scored 11 times during her international career.
