Matthews roared out of the gate with 10 goals and six assists in his first 11 games, before a hit from Jacob Trouba of the Winnipeg Jets put him on the shelf on October 28.
Although the 21-year-old’s absence was felt by the Maple Leafs, they went 9-5-0 in the time he was out.
