Celebrini and Matthews are at the NHL Media Player Tour in Las Vegas, and the newest Maple Leafs captain told Nicholas Cotsonika of NHL.com that he is jealous about Celebrini living with Sharks legend Joe Thornton this season.

Matthews stayed with Thornton during the 2020-21 COVID-19 season and remembered his experience. When they arrived in Canada, Matthews and Thronton had to quarantine for two weeks.

"I'm kind of jealous," Matthews told Cotsonika. "'Jumbo' got the master. We all had our own rooms. I was down in the basement. The rink was just, like, a two-second walk. It had a gymnastics area, a basketball court. We would play a basketball game, 2-on-2, to warm up, and then we'd get on the ice."

"Yeah, it was two weeks of just hanging out. Jumbo just made it so fun because of who he is," Matthews said. "It was our first interaction with him. We had an unbelievable time. Those two weeks flew by."

Thornton then stayed with Matthews at his apartment for the following two weeks while Thornton waited for his family to arrive in Toronto.

Celebrini told Cotsonika that living with Thornton this season is the "perfect situation."

"Living with him, I think it's the perfect situation for me coming into this year, because he pretty much dealt with the same thing a little while back," Celebrini said. "Just to learn from his advice, his lessons and his wisdom is super important for me."

When asked what the 2024 first-overall pick is about to experience, the Maple Leafs superstar said that Celebrini will have a blast with Thornton.

"As far as what he can expect, it's going to be so much fun. He wakes up every day -- no coffee, so much energy. There's no bad days in his life. He brings it every day, and it's just so fun to be around. I think he's going to really enjoy it," Matthews said. "Living with him, I'm sure he's going to learn a lot. Jumbo's great as far as just, like, supporting people and keeping things light. He's going to really enjoy it."

The Sharks boast unique abilities for their young superstars, as Will Smith is staying with Patrick Marleau this season. Matthews and fellow Maple Leafs teammate Mitch Marner were very close with Marleau.
