NAT063 – (Campus-Antisemitism)
OTTAWA. x–13s. Canada’s special envoy for combatting antisemitism says she’s keen to explore the idea of removing religion as a possible defence against hate speech charges. Deborah Lyons’ comments to a parliamentary committee come after Quebec prosecutors decided against charging an imam over comments said during a prayer at a demonstration in Montreal last fall, where he prayed in Arabic for God “to take care of the aggressor Zionists.”

TAG: Lyons also testified she believes universities’ equity, diversity and inclusion strategies are failing Jewish students, who have reported a rise in antisemitic incidents since Israel launched its war following Hamas’ October 7th attack.
