BRUSSELS. x–23s. Relations between the European Union and Israel took a nosedive on the eve of the diplomatic recognition of a Palestinian state by E-U members Ireland and Spain. Madrid is suggesting sanctions should be considered against Israel for its continued attacks in the southern Gaza city of Rafah. Irish foreign minister Micheál Martin says other E-U members need to come together behind a plan to end the war in Gaza.
