UNDATED. x–25s. Fans of of Punjabi-Canadian rapper Sidhu Moose Wala (sid-OO’ moose WAH’-lah) are expected to remember and honour him on the second anniversary of his death this week. On May 29th, 2022, Moose Wala — who first garnered recognition at age 24 when he was an international student in Ontario — was shot dead while driving his car in northern India’s Punjab state. His popularity paved a path for a new generation of Punjabi artists in Canada fusing traditional Punjabi folk tunes and the language with hip-hop and trap beats. Calgarian Shub Karman says he has seen the popularity of Moose Wala’s music grow on the Prairies, including among those who don’t speak Punjabi.
