NAT024 – (Foreign-Aid)
OTTAWA. x–17s. Canada is one of the world’s top donors for foreign aid, but new data shows that nearly one-fifth of the spending goes toward refugees and Ukrainians within Canada. That’s according to analysis from the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development, a club of mostly wealthy countries, which found that 19 per cent of Canada’s aid money is spent at home. One Campaign’s director for Canada, Elise Legault, says money is largely on top of what Canada has pledged for people in other countries.

TAG: Legault’s group, which fights poverty in African countries, says Canada is focused more on humanitarian responses to crises instead of helping countries invest in their health care, energy and emergency systems to prevent problems down the road.
