Auburn's Jeremy Johnson back as Tigers' starting QB vs. Alabama A&M

Remember Auburn quarterback Jeremy Johnson? He’s getting the start on Saturday vs. Alabama A&M.

Johnson is making his first start of the season because Sean White, the team’s full-time starter in 2016, is dealing with a shoulder injury. White reaggravated the injury in Auburn’s loss to Georgia last week but played the entire game.

The choice of Johnson as the team’s starter means backup quarterback John Franklin III was passed over for the starting job. All three quarterbacks saw significant time in the season-opening loss to Clemson but White became the team’s starter after that. Franklin has operated as his backup while Johnson has been the No. 3 quarterback.

Franklin, a former enrollee at Florida State, spent last season at East Mississippi Community College and was featured in the Netflix Series “Last Chance U.”

“[Johnson is] extremely excited, a chance to start his last home game,” Malzahn said on his weekly radio show via AuburnSports.com. “He’s had a good week of practice — and his teammates are excited for him. I think he’ll play very well.”

Johnson played in 10 games in 2015, throwing for 1,037 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions. White took over as the team’s starting quarterback in September and averaged nearly 1.5 yards more per attempt than Johnson despite throwing just one TD pass.

Auburn, 7-3, plays Alabama on Nov. 26 before a bowl game. The Tigers have no chance of winning the SEC West as the Georgia loss clinched the division for Alabama.
