Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez is on the verge of leaving the club 11 years after making it into the first team, only spending two seasons away from the club at Chelsea and Rayo Vallecano on loan. The 29-year-old is being courted by Sevilla.

Los Nervionenses have been in talks with Saul for weeks, as per Relevo, and they are keen to bring him in, but will only do so on a free transfer. Meanwhile Atletico Madrid have offered him a mutual termination package, leaving the ball in his court.

Matteo Moretto is reporting that a deal is close, but Los Rojiblancos feel they have left the ball in Saul’s court. Rayo were keen on bringing Saul back, but it appears Sevilla are closer to convincing him.

Formerly a key part of the team, Saul is one of the top earners at the club, and has two years left on his deal. Atletico have been trying to move him on for some time, and it seems likely that Saul would end up missing out on several million euros if he were to take the package, which clearly is Atletico’s motive for offering it to him.
