Atletico Madrid are in a poor run of form at the moment, having only won two of their last seven matches across all competitions – and one of those came on Thursday against sixth-tier side UE Vic. It’s clear that things need to turn around at the Metropolitano, but that becoming a reality will be easier said than done, especially so with continual injury issues.

As per Diario AS, the latest player facing a spell on the sidelines is Jose Maria Gimenez. The Uruguayan is the leader of Diego Simeone’s defence, although he may be unable to play against Las Palmas on Sunday after limping out of Friday’s training session.

Gimenez will be assessed over the coming hours, and it will remain to be seen whether he can be involved in Saturday’s final session before the match against Las Palmas. Atletico Madrid desperately need him to be available, especially as they are about to face a team that have won their last three games.
