Atlético Madrid advancing in talks for Chelsea star

La Liga giants Atlético Madrid are making strides in their push to land a headline member of the midfield ranks at Chelsea.

That’s according to transfer insider Fabrizio Romano, who points towards Conor Gallagher as the player in question.

The name of England international Gallagher has of course been a prominent one in the headlines in Spain’s capital across the summer to date.

As much comes amid long-standing confirmation that the 24-year-old is considered the ideal profile to reinforce the depleted engine room setup under the watch of Diego Simeone at Atlético Madrid.

To date, little progress had been made in negotiations between the Rojiblancos and Chelsea, whose demands continued to put off those behind the scenes at the Wanda Metropolitano.

As alluded to above, though, if the latest word to have come to the fore on Tuesday regarding the situation is anything to go by, then a breakthrough may yet be in sight.

As per Fabrizio Romano:

‘Atlético Madrid and Chelsea are now in direct talks for Conor Gallagher deal. Negotiations underway for package worth around €35/40m add-ons included, requested by Chelsea.’

The deal is considered as inching ‘closer’ to completion, with a further update on the situation expected later in the week.
