Atlético’s Antoine Griezmann announces international retirement
Atlético Madrid star Antoine Griezmann has on Monday announced his surprise decision to call time on his international career.
Frontman Griezmann, of course, has long played a leading role for his home country of France.
Since first being called up by Les Bleus a full ten years ago, the 33-year-old has racked up a hefty 137 appearances, across which he managed to find the net 44 times.
The undisputed highlight of Griezmann’s France stint came back in 2018, when the gifted striker played a starring role in the nation’s triumph at the World Cup.
He also tasted glory at the 2021 UEFA Nations League, adding silver medals at both the 2016 European Championships, and 2022 World Cup.
This week, though, Griezmann has come to the conclusion that he has nothing left to contribute for Les Bleus.
Taking to his official social media platforms on Monday, the Atlético standout, in turn, has made official his retirement from the international game:
C’est avec le cœur plein de souvenirs que je clos ce chapitre de ma vie. Merci pour cette magnifique aventure tricolore et à bientôt. 🇫🇷 pic.twitter.com/qpw8dvdtFt
