The Athletic details Chelsea’s future plan for transfer target with January move seemingly unlikely
Chelsea have put any potential deal for Marc Guehi on the back burner until the summer when a deal will be cheaper according to The Athletic.
The Blues weren’t expected to be busy this month, but injuries to Wesley Fofana and Benoit Badiashile seemingly changed their plans.
Chelsea have recalled Trevoh Chalobah from Crystal Palace and he was named man of the match on his first game back against Wolves.
Chelsea to revisit Guehi deal in the summer
Enzo Maresca’s side have also agreed a deal worth up to €15m for Strasbourg centre back Mamadou Sarr ,and the 19-year-old will join in the summer.
However, before those decisions were taken Chelsea did explore a deal for Crystal Palace captain Guehi, who currently has 18 months left on his contract.
The Blues were said to value Guehi at less than £50m, and would be due a significant reduction in price thanks to a sell on clause they inserted when they sold the England international to the Eagles for £18m in 2021.
A January move for the former Cobham graduate is unlikely to materialise, but a return to Stamford Bridge for Guehi hasn’t been totally ruled out.
The Athletic have reported that Chelsea have put any deal for Guehi on the back burner until the summer, where he will have just a year left on his contract and be significantly cheaper.

Chelsea on course for a memorable season
It makes sense, but if Guehi doesn’t commit to a new deal the Blues will more than likely face increased competition for his signature in the summer with many more clubs likely to be interested at a reduced price.
Whatever happens it feels like there are going to be significant changes at centre back in the summer with the likes of Axel Disasi and Badiashile possible candidates to leave, whilst one or two new faces could also arrive.
