Just a day before Athetlc Club’s big Super Cup encounter against Barcelona, the club’s president Jon Uriarte offered his thoughts on Barça’s ongoing registration woes.

The Catalans are hoping for a favourable outcome from the Higher Council for Sports (CSD), which will allow Dani Olmo and Pau Victor to be registered as a precautionary measure.

If the verdict comes on time, both Olmo and Victor, who have travelled with the team to Saudi Arabia, might even be able to feature against Athletic Club.

“It is something that is an issue between Barcelona, La Liga and the Federation,” Uriarte began (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

It must be noted that Athletic Club are reportedly one of the clubs who have opposed Barcelona’s push for Olmo and Victor’s registration, urging La Liga to apply stringent measures.

Uriarte, though, refuted these claims, stating, “I don’t know where this information comes from, what concerns Barcelona’s registrations are part of La Liga and the Federation, when we have had doubts we have consulted regulations, with the aim of clarifying it.”

“Athletic is not part of any common front, the regulations are the same for everyone. The feeling is common, that the rules are same for everyone in all competitions,” he added.

Uriarte, though, did highlight that rules must be followed and must be applied equally, which can be seen as a veiled dig at Barcelona’s attempts to seek precautionary measures.

“There are rules in the different competitions, which are the same for everyone and must be complied with,” he said.

However, it appears Athletic Club are broadly not keen on taking any sides and are taking a stance similar to that of Real Madrid, who have remained quiet on the matter.

Uriarte went on to reveal that he hasn’t had any conversation with Joan Laporta regarding the matter, stating, “We have not spoken, but we will see each other at the game and we will hug each other.”

Uriarte on Nico Williams’ future

The Athletic Club president also touched upon the future of Nico Williams, who has remained a hot topic at Barcelona despite a failed move in the summer.

“It’s something I don’t give any more thought to. For us, Nico is an important player. He’s a player who came through the youth academy and is part of the first team,” he said.

“We’re in four competitions, we’re here with the ambition of fighting for this title. We’re working to make a great project and for players like Nico to be part of it,” he concluded.
