Athletic Club president closes door on Nico Williams rumours
The longest-running transfer saga of the summer window which has just closed was undoubtedly the rumours of Nico Williams moving from Athletic Club to Barcelona.
The rumours began following Euro 2024, when the winger exceeded all expectations of him and developed great chemistry with Barcelona starlet Lamine Yamal.
Now, boardroom staff at the Basque club are looking to turn the page on these rumours, and are insisting that William’s future lies in Bilbao.
This news comes from Marca, who are reporting that Athletic Club president Jon Uriarte who touched upon the rumours when talking to the press.
When talking about Nico, Uriarte said, “We have been able to retain talent and attract it. Hopefully, he will develop his entire career with us.”
Nico Williams currently has a contract in Bilbao until 2027, but despite this the club were worried that the prospect of a move to the Catalan giants had turned his head.
Now that the club has seemingly moved on from this chapter, Athletic Club will now be looking ahead to this season, and will be trying to improve upon their silverware-winning effort last time out.
