Atalanta outcast may complete Premier League return after six months

Ben Godfrey’s stint at Atalanta is close to coming to an end after only six months, as the club is open to letting him leave on loan in January, with some Premier League teams reportedly interested in bringing him back.

The English defender has played as few as 67 minutes for La Dea across four appearances since leaving Everton to sign for the Serie A outfit last summer, failing to impress coach Gian Piero Gasperini.

Despite their recent €12m investment, Atalanta may accept loan offers for the centre-back, who never started a game during his five months at the Gewiss Stadium. The coach’s preference fell on the likes of Odilon

According to the Daily Mail, at least four Premier League teams are considering making a move for the 26-year-old, with Nottingham Forest and Wolverhampton particularly keen on securing his services as soon as the transfer window opens in January.

Godfrey made his only Serie A appearance in his side’s 4-0 win over Lecce on the debut day, coming on as a substitute for the final 20 minutes. He had featured in the European Supercup against Real Madrid before that moment but has since racked up only 17 Champions League minutes.
