Aston Villa striker Jhon Duran was heavily linked with a move away from the club during the summer transfer window.

Chelsea were keen on signing the player but the Blues failed to get the deal across the line. According to Football Insider, the likes of West Ham United were keen on the player as well. Chelsea need an upgrade on Nicolas Jackson and Duran would have been a long-term investment.

The 20-year-old was expected to leave Aston Villa during the summer transfer window, but they failed to get rid of him and the Colombian has been outstanding for them this season. Even though he is not a regular starter for them, he has scored five goals in eight matches across all competitions.

The 20-year-old will look to establish himself as a regular starter for the club now. According to Football Insider, Aston Villa have now changed their minds on the player and they are not willing to sell him anymore. They believe that he could develop into a key player for the club.

Jhon Duran could be a star for Aston Villa

Duran is highly rated across Europe and he has a bright future. The Colombian could develop into one of the best strikers in the league with the right guidance. Aston Villa have been overly dependent on Ollie Watkins for goals and they need more support in the attack.

The Colombian seems like the ideal option. If he manages to fulfil his potential with the West Midlands club, he could end up saving millions in the transfer market for the club.

Initially, the striker struggled to adapt to Unai Emery’s methods at the English club, but he seems to be getting used to his surroundings now. It remains to be seen whether he can convince the Spanish manager to give him an extended run in the side.

Aston Villa are competing in the UEFA Champions League and they need a deeper squad with more quality. Someone like Duran could prove to be a handy option for them during rotation and injuries.
