Manchester City have reportedly received an opening proposal of a loan offer from Aston Villa for their out-of-favour midfielder, Kalvin Phillips this summer.

The former Leeds United man is looking to once again bring an end to a difficult spell with Pep Guardiola’s side, since making the switch to the Etihad Stadium in the summer transfer window of 2022.

Despite claiming almost every trophy available during his two seasons with Manchester City, consistent game time and belief from his manager to perform alongside or as a back-up to Rodri has been hard to come by.

The ongoing pre-season tour of the United States has however handed Phillips a chance at redemption in light of a nightmare six-month loan spell with West Ham United at the end of last season.

However, his time on the pitch Stateside has been far from convincing, with a number of individual errors once again leaving fans questioning his place in the City squad. But a chance at an Etihad Stadium exit may not be too far away this summer.

According to the information of Football Insider this week, Aston Villa have now submitted a loan offer for Manchester City midfielder Kalvin Phillips, with the 28-year-old pushing for a move and with Everton also interested in a deal.

It is further explained that the Premier League champions themselves are looking to let go of the Englishman this summer, but on a permanent agreement. However, the report points out that Etihad bosses would be willing to accept a loan offer if needed.

There had been an expectation in some quarters that a return to his boyhood club Leeds United could be on the cards this summer, but only on the proviso that the Elland Road club secured a return to the Premier League.

However, the Yorkshire side fell in the Championship play-off final to Southampton in the final game of last season, leaving them with a financial situation that would likely not align itself with the demands of both Manchester City and Phillips.

From the side of Etihad Stadium officials, the club will more than likely not require a direct replacement for Kalvin Phillips this summer, should he leave the club, but would be open to the idea of sourcing a more capable back-up solution to Rodri in defensive midfield.
