Aston Villa have reached a ‘full agreement’ with Borussia Dortmund for the transfer of Donyell Malen.

The Netherlands international was Unai Emery’s top target heading into the January window, as the Villa boss looks to reinforce his attacking options. After seeing an opening proposal rejected, Villa have now reached terms on a deal for the Dutchman.

Sky Germany are reporting that Aston Villa have agreed an initial fee of €25m (£21m) with a further €5m (£4.2m). €3m of those add-ons are guaranteed to the German side.

Malen, who plays predominantly from the right wing, will add another option to Villa’s attack as the club continue challenge for a top-four finish and Champions League progression.

The 25-year-old, who spent time with Arsenal as a teenager, was Dortmund’s leading scorer last season but has struggled for favour under new head coach Nuri Sahin. Malen has scored 39 goals and provided 20 assists in 132 appearances for Borussia Dortmund. He has also netted nine times in 45 caps for the Netherlands national team.

Malen will be viewed as a direct replacement for Moussa Diaby, who was sold to Saudi Pro League side Al-Ittihad in the summer.

Villa are planning more signings after Malen’s impending arrival. The Midlands outfit are interested in a deal to sign Celta Vigo right-back Oscar Mingueza. The 25-year-old, who can also operate in central defence, has two goals and five assists in 18 La Liga appearances this season.
