Ascoli shocker as coach Di Carlo fired via social media
Ascoli hit the headlines after taking the unusual step of firing coach Mimmo Di Carlo via social media, when he was still on the pitch shaking the referee’s hand.
There is the rush to provide on the whistle match reports, but Ascoli President Massimo Pulcinelli has introduced the concept of an on the whistle dismissal.
The moment the referee signalled the end of the 2-1 Serie C defeat to Lucchese, Pulcinelli was on his phone publishing the Instagram message confirming that he had fired his coach.
Of course, because Di Carlo was still on the touchline saluting the referee and his opponents, he didn’t get the news until later that he was already out of a job.
Di Carlo dismissed on Instagram
“Mister Di Carlo sacked! We apologise to our fans! Shameful performance!” wrote the club patron on his Instagram Stories.
Only hours later did Ascoli formally announce that Di Carlo had been fired.
He had only taken the job on October 3, overseeing four wins, seven draws and six defeats.
Before that, Cristian Ledesma had been caretaker manager for one game, after Massimo Carrera had been sacked on September 26, so Ascoli are looking for their fourth coach of the season.
