Gabriel has joined the list of absentees in Arsenal’s backline after sustaining a knee injury at the weekend. Arteta has alleviated fears over the seriousness of the complaint, though the Brazilian will not be risked at Preston. William Saliba could return after serving a one-game suspension against Liverpool with Takehiro Tomiyasu and Riccardo Calafiori also out.
Academy graduates Nwaneri, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Josh Nichols could all feature, while there could be a debut for Tommy Setford in goal.
The 18-year-old signed for Ajax in the summer and is competing with 16-year-old Jack Porter – who played against Bolton – for a place in the side, should David Raya be rested.
