Arsenal XI vs Girona – Predicted lineup and team news

Arsenal conclude their Champions League league phase campaign with a trip to Girona this evening.

The Gunners are all but assured an automatic place in the last 16 and sit third in the standings. Given a healthy goal difference, only defeat and a significant swing of results and goals could see Arsenal drop into the playoff places.

Mikel Arteta could look to rotate his side ahead of a crucial week in the club’s campaign. Following the trip to Spain, Arsenal face Manchester City in the Premier League before the second leg of their Carabao Cup semi-final with Newcastle.

At the weekend, Arsenal overcame the adversity of Myles Lewis-Skelly’s red card to beat Wolves 1-0 at Molineux.

Their opponents tonight, Girona, are already eliminated from the Champions League. The Spanish side have taken just three points from their seven games.

Arsenal team news

Mikel Arteta could look to rest some of his key personnel for the trip to Spain. William Saliba and Gabriel are among those in need of rest, while there could be a debut for on-loan goalkeeper Neto.

Mikel Merino and Martin Odegaard have travelled despite missing the weekend win at Wolves through injury and illness respectively.

The lack of alternatives mean Kai Havertz is expected to lead the line again despite signs of fatigue in recent fixtures. Injuries to Gabriel Jesus and Bukayo Saka mean Arsenal are light in the final third. Ben White and Takehiro Tomiyasu are not yet ready to return.
