Arsenal vs Manchester United LIVE!

Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus fired Arsenal to a stunning 3-1 stoppage-time victory against Manchester United as a thrill-a-minute clash came to an unforgettable conclusion. Last year's Premier League runners-up hosted the side that finished third on Sunday afternoon as these teams looked to kick on from more unconvincing starts than their respective points tallies suggested.

Marcus Rashford brilliantly put Erik ten Hag's United ahead in the first half at the Emirates Stadium, only for Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard to impressively level 110 seconds later. The match looked set to end in an absorbing draw after a penalty for a foul on Kai Havertz was overturned following a pitchside review, before the VAR ruled out substitute Alejandro Garnacho's late winner for narrowly straying offside.

United's wholehearted celebrations were cut short and there was still time for more drama in a jaw-dropping ending. A deep corner found Rice to slam home his first Arsenal goal off the heel of Jonny Evans in the sixth minute of stoppage time, before substitute Jesus coolly added gloss for Mikel Arteta's men. Sancho hits back at Ten Hag claims

Sunday 3 September 2023 21:18 , Alex Young

Jadon Sancho has sensationally hit back at Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag over claims the forward was dropped due to his poor performance in training.

Sancho was missing from the United squad for Sunday's dramatic defeat at Arsenal, and after the game Ten Hag said the forward was omitted as a disciplinary measure.

"Jadon was [due to] his performance on training we didn’t select him," Ten Hag told reports. "You have to reach the level every day at Manchester United.

"You can make choices in the front line, so in this game he wasn’t selected."

But Sancho has emphatically denied his level of effort in training was a concern, insisting his manager's claims are "completely untrue", adding that he has been made a "scapegoat for a long time".

Arteta points finger at Saka

Sunday 3 September 2023 19:56 , Alex Young

Mikel Arteta has jokingly pointed the finger at Bukayo Saka for his miss during Arsenal's dramatic win over Manchester United.

An even game looked to be heading to a 1-1 draw before Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus scored in the 97th and 101st minutes to secure a thrilling victory.

The Emirates Stadium was bounced at the final whistle, relieved at the victory which was so nearly a defeat with Alejandro Garnacho scoring in the 88th goal only to see it ruled out for offside.

Saka was again quiet by his standards, but should have put the Gunners in the lead before the dramatic finale, firing straight at Andre Onana from point-blank range with the goal gaping.

"I would have preferred that Bukayo puts it in the net a lot earlier," Arteta said of the injury-time goals.

Ten Hag fumes over THREE decisions

Sunday 3 September 2023 19:29 , Alex Young

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag has fumed "it was not offside" after Alejandro Garnacho's crucial goal was ruled out in defeat to Arsenal.

The match looked to be heading for a draw until substitute Garnacho ran clear of the Gunners' defence in the 88th minute and slotted past Aaron Ramsdale.

However, VAR ruled the possible match-winner out for offside following a check as the young Argentine strayed centimetres beyond the last man.

Declan Rice and Gabriel Jesus then scored in injury time to secure a thrilling win, leaving Ten Hag to claim the VAR decision was incorrect.

United have improved since the goals, despite the setback of shipping an equaliser inside 35 seconds. Antony and Rashford are getting into the game more, although Arsenal continue to look a threat in possession. Good contest now.

27min: Havertz’s pass is intercepted by Eriksen, a quick look up to set Rashford off running, and the striker cuts inside and fires past Ramsdale and off the inside of the post.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:56 , Alex Young

25min: More bays from the crowd as Anthony appears to kick the ball away after the whistle, but the forward claims he didn’t hear the whistle. Either way, there no booking and everyone just needs to calm down a bit, please?

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:54 , Alex Young

24min: Onana is taking an age over his goal kicks, much to the annoyance of the Arsenal fans. The keeper has drafted in Martinez to help him too, which isn’t exactly speeding up the process.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:53 , Alex Young

22min: Boos for the ref as Saka is called up for a clear foul on Dalot after a long delay, and then both White and Saka hit the deck to prompt another pause in play.

We have a drinks break, and it may be needed as it is getting a little bit tetchy.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:50 , Alex Young

20min: Ten Hag shakes his head as Dalot tries to find Martial with a long ball over the top, which is nowhere near its intended target and straight at Ramsdale.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:49 , Alex Young

18min: Saka whips it in, Rice meets it at the far post but heads it well over.

That was a chance.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:48 , Alex Young

17min: Arsenal are really pushing now and Martinelli is having plenty of fun against Wan-Bissaka. His latest cross from the left is headed behind for a corner...

A feature is this game already is Onana targeting White with diagonal balls but the Arsenal right-back has been equal to the approach so far. The United goalkeeper is extremely advanced - basically a sweeper - but Arsenal are focusing their press on the defenders rather than him.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:44 , Alex Young

13min: Oh, Havertz! The goal is gaping and he takes a swing and a miss about six yards out!

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:42 , Alex Young

11min: United win the ball high up the pitch, in Arsenal’s final third, through a Fernandes sliding tackle but the captain’s pass to Martial is wayward and the move breaks down.

That’s poor. He was only 10 yards away.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:39 , Alex Young

9min: Havertz flies in with a high foot on Anthony, which wins the United forward a foul. Perhaps lucky to not be booked, the Arsenal midfielder.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:38 , Alex Young

7min: A poor Ramsdale clearance almost gifts an opportunity to United but Gabriel is on hand with his cool head to avert the danger.

Pretty breathless stuff.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:37 , Alex Young

5min: A blistering start to this game as United try to get a foot on the ball and halt this Arsenal charge.

Onana is trying to slow it down, and it’s working so far.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:34 , Alex Young

3min: Arsenal go short and it almost bears fruit as Nketiah plays a one-two with Martinelli to send the latter again into the area, but his shot at a tight angle is wide.

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:33 , Alex Young

2min: It’s a far start from the Gunners. Havertz and then Martinelli get to the byline but cannot find a man in the centre.

They have won a corner, though...

Ten Hag speaks

Sunday 3 September 2023 16:12 , Alex Young

"We're really looking forward to this," he said. "It's a top game and we have to be good, we know that, but we like those challenges and we have to rise to the occasion. This line-up has been successful many times.

"Sergio is just in, one team training, and Rasmus Hojlund has had one week of training, but he doesn't have game practice so far with us this season. It's best to start on the bench and he can come on. He's really hungry.

"That's what we saw in his character when we scouted him. We are sure he will contribute, but it's not about 11 players, it's about the squad. As a club we have to deal with injuries and Arsenal have good players. It's all about taking the three points."

Arsenal XI

Sunday 3 September 2023 15:32 , Alex Young

Here’s how Arsenal look.

New shirt numbers

Sunday 3 September 2023 15:18 , Alex Young

Manchester United ahead of the game announced some new shirt numbers.

Rasmus Hojlund has been given the no.11 shirt after Mason Greenwood's exit. New goalkeeper Altay Bayindir is the club's new no.1 and young star Alejandro Garnacho swaps no.49 for no.17 worn now Fred has left.

All three should be in the squad today.

Reguilon revival?

Sunday 3 September 2023 15:09 , Alex Young

Talking of Sergio Reguilon, his loan move from Tottenham has to be one of the more random transfers of a summer window full of them.

A complete outcast at Tottenham, having last played competitively for Spurs in May 2022, he was shipped out to Atletico Madrid last season and had a tough time of it under defensive-minded Diego Simeone.

So, what has Erik ten Hag seen in him (bar desperation)?

"He's very experienced player, played for big clubs, already played a lot of La Liga and Premier League games, he has a very good background, he can play very intense football, we are happy," the Manchester United boss said.

"We had a problem with Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia injured, we responded well in that emergency situation."

Team news talking points

Sunday 3 September 2023 15:03 , Alex Young

Team news is coming up.

Gabriel Magalhaes will surely come in for Thomas Partey, but Takehiro Tomiyasu is available following his suspension for picking up a red card in that win at Palace, so he is an option. Could Kai Havertz lose his starting spot, with Fabio Vieira pushing him. And how about a start for Gabriel Jesus?

Will Erik ten Hag throw Rasmus Hojlund straight in? Can he trust that Sergio Reguilon is match fit to play? How will make up the defence?

So many questions and all will be answered in 27 minutes. What we do know, though, is that it’s not scarf weather in north London!

Hojlund ready for debut

Sunday 3 September 2023 14:45 , Alex Young

Manchester United fans will hope to see Rasmus Hojlund for the first time today, and Erik ten Hag is convinced the £72million young striker has what it takes to become a star.

The 20-year-old is fit to make his debut at Arsenal on Sunday, almost a month after joining, and his manager is impressed by what he has seen in training.

"He didn't even play games but now in the training sessions, he confirms the impression we had of him when we scouted him," the United boss said. "We really intensely scouted him. He's acting very good this week, very good spirit. He's very motivated, of course, to start, to be in the team.

"He can't wait and I think we did the right thing (waiting for his debut) but, of course, I would have appreciated it if it was from the first game on, but that was not the case. But now he is fit, we are happy, he will definitely strengthen the squad and give a very good impact on the team."

He added: "He is brave and that's enough. When he is brave and has belief, the rest will come."

Ten Hag: We’re up for the fight

Sunday 3 September 2023 14:30 , Alex Young

Erik ten Hag says he is looking forward to an "interesting, intense" clash with Arsenal.

Manchester United have six points from their opening three Premier League matches, but their performances to date have been far from convincing, so Ten Hag knows his side need to up their game at the Emirates Stadium.

"It's one of the biggest games in the Premier League and we are really looking forward, of course, to that fight," the United boss said. "It's really always interesting games, intense games.

"I think it is two teams who really play offensive football, the right intentions, I would say. The audience is always the big winner of that game, so really looking forward to have that game."

Arteta responds to criticism with M25 reference

Sunday 3 September 2023 14:20 , Alex Young

Mikel Arteta has defended his tactical tweaks by referencing his drive to work after an underwhelming start drew criticism.

Arsenal have taken seven points from their opening three games but were held to a 2-2 draw at home to 10-man Fulham last week after narrow wins over Nottingham Forest and Crystal Palace.

"I played different against Manchester City (in the Community Shield) and there were 43 different formations," he said. "Every morning I come from my house to Colney. Sometimes I leave at six and I need to go to the windscreen because it's icy. At six o'clock normally I go Finchley Road and then the A21 because it's faster.

"Now Finchley Road is 20 miles per hour so sometimes I take a back door. But then I go on the M25. But depending on if it's a school ride I take one exit. If it's after seven o'clock I take a different exit and then I go.

"One day I have a flat tyre, what do I do? Maybe I have to replace it because there's a garage there. So every game is a different story guys. A different story.

"If we have another injury we're going to have to do something else. If Bukayo (Saka) is not there we're going to have something else. So the M25 won't be good enough. Maybe we'll take another one.

"If I speak to a taxi driver that has learned the whole of London for 20 years, I know nothing compared to him because he will tell me all the streets and options at the best time."
