Arsenal star left out of USA squad due to knee injury
Arsenal have announced that defender Takehiro Tomiyasu will miss the club’s upcoming pre-season tour of the United States due to a knee injury.
The Japanese international will remain in London to undergo treatment at the Sobha Realty Training Centre.
Arsenal have not stated what the problem is with Tomiyasu’s knee nor how long they expect him to be out of action.
This latest setback adds to Tomiyasu’s injury-plagued tenure at Arsenal since his arrival from Bologna in 2021.
His injury history includes multiple calf injuries and a knee surgery that sidelined him for over three months.
Keiran Tierney is also recovering from the hamstring problem that ended his Euros earlier this summer and has not been included in the squad.
Manager Mikel Arteta has named an initial 26-man squad for the US tour, which includes a mix of senior players and promising youngsters. Notable absentees, in addition to Tomiyasu, Gabriel Magalhaes, Gabriel Martinelli, and Kai Havertz (due to international commitments), and several players involved in the latter stages of Euro 2024.
Arsenal’s US tour itinerary includes matches against Bournemouth, Manchester United, and Liverpool.
The first game is scheduled for July 24 against Bournemouth at the Dignity Health Sports Park in Los Angeles.
