Arsenal make shockingly low bid for goalkeeper target - report

Arsenal have seen an opening offer for Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Dan Bentley rejected, a report has revealed.

It was revealed earlier this week that Arsenal had identified Bentley as a possible target this summer amid uncertainty over the future of current backup stopper Aaron Ramsdale.

Now, The Athletic note that a formal bid has been submitted and knocked back by Wolves, who rejected the offer almost immediately after it was received.

While Wolves are believed to be open to a sale, they would only do so if they receive an offer which would allow them to reivest in the current squad. As it stands, Arsenal's approach sits well short of Wolves' price tag.

The Evening Standard put Arsenal's bid at just £50,000.

It is noted that Arsenal see 30-year-old Bentley as a third-choice goalkeeper option, rather than a direct replacement for Ramsdale.

Ramsdale is expected to consider his future this summer following his eventual return from Euro 2024 with England, having lost his place in the Arsenal team to David Raya, whose loan from Brentford was made permanent earlier this month.

Arsenal are reported to be looking at a handful of goalkeeper targets in case of Ramsdale's departure, with Real Madrid's Andriy Lunin often touted as a possible option.

According to AS, another stopper under consideration is Espanyol's Joan Garcia, whose €25m £21.1m) release clause has also attracted interest from both Madrid and Tottenham Hotspur.

Bentley would undoubtedly be a cheaper target, having entered the final year of his contract at Molineux, although there is believed to be a two-year extension clause written into his current deal with Wolves.
